I'll happily pay out $15 to read the latest Bujold NOW rather than wait til November - but I also know that I'll enjoy re-reading Bujold, so the price per read will go down, if that makes sense. I don't know Brent Weeks, I gather he writes fantasy, and I doubt I'll like his work, so I wouldn't spend $13 for it. I'd maybe spend $6 or so to try it, but not $13. It doesn't matter to me whether he took two years or two weeks to write it - the value to me isn't in his time, but in his talent.

I'll pay less for "read once" books than I will for a "read many" book.
