I wouldnt mess around with the root filesystem unless you REALLY KNOW what the implications might be. I would suggest you are just a few steps away from a bricking by the sounds of things.

you can mount the root filesystem read write. but honestly that is the last resort, there are often better ways to skin the cat.

In terms of this hack, I never actually performed the amendments myself and I would be EXTRA careful if I was trying to use code for an alternate device.

Geekmaster is the authority on this subject I suppose - plus the others in the thread I sent you, honestly I would check if any of them have done what you are trying to do before messing with my root files.

Don't mean to be a doomsayer dude. just like saying "WARNING"!

so - yeah - you can mount it RW and if you REALLY REALLY are certain you want to do it then the instructions pop up on the screen every time you SSH into the device.
