SONY service has a terrible reputation. There must be great variation, because I had a wonderful experience.

I bought a 900 with a screen that faded a bit under the sun. I called them - but I was on vacation. They told me to send the unit when I came home. I ended up getting side-tracked and four months went by. One day, I scratched the screen pretty bad. So I called them to find out what my options were. The CS person said there was a note on my account saying the unit was meant to be replaced. So they gave me a refurbished unit - but it was 100% perfect, no way to tell it wasn't new. - Side note, of incompetence. A week later they sent me ONE MORE unit. I called them. Told them about it. They did not agree. I swear. It must be my accent, but the person on the other side kept explaining that they send me a refurb. I was trying to explain they sent me TWO. That just did not get across. You would think it simple.... but no. Long story short, they would just not take the unit. I still have them both. Never got charged. I guess that was nice, but not a sign of good CS.

Then another time I called them about a book I had just bought. It was some small amount... I think $2.99 or so. It was supposed to be some annotated version of some book. But it had no annotations. So I called, they refunded me $5.00 because, supposedly, they could not give less than five back. And they left me the book.

And, none of these calls took more than 10 min. No long waits or anything like that.

But I keep reading horror stories.
