Are you letting the Kobo turn itself off after time out or just sleep? I only let it sleep (turn off is set to never). It only goes back to the home screen after connecting to my PC or I ask it to (press the home button or finish a book). With this, I still get well over a weeks use (at least two hours a day) without recharging.
