It's more hype than anything. I have an iPod touch 4 with retina display and a Galaxy Player 4. Here are some relevant specs concerning their displays:
  • iPod touch: LCD - 3.5" - 960x640 - 326ppi - no IPS
  • Galaxy Play: LCD - 4.0" - 800x480 - 233ppi - no IPS
The text on the iPod is sharper than the Galaxy; but overall, the Galaxy has a better looking display and I prefer it over the iPod's.
