Hard drives crash as I have gone through too many in past couple of years. I keep two sources well now three ways of back ups. External, Discs and now Cloud. I think the most reliable is Discs in all the years I've used them I had maybe 3 DVDs get corrupted data on them.
Yes my phone has a measly 256MB of app space and only 180MB of that is available for my apps. Seeing Good Play takes up 10MB after last update. Amazon App Store takes way more but I downgraded to a older version which is 8MB. These apps are getting huge! I hate updating.

Android is a messy O/S sooner or later a factory reset is all you can do to get space back.
