Plot motivators and spicers
In the sample of "Steal this Plot" the authors list 13 plot motivators and 13 plot spicers as part of finding a plot for a story/novel. I found the idea interesting. For example one motivator was Vengeance and one of the spicers was Deception. (The complete list of both are listed in the sample, and is worth a look.) Anyway it struck me that such is easy to build on if you think about it. One of the DeathWish movies (I think # 4) uses just that combo. Charles Bronson's character wants to get back at those who sold the drugs that killed his girlfriends daughter (Vengeance) and he is enlisted by another man who claims to want to get rid of the drug pushers as well (Deception). I'm sure a lot of different stories could be told by a mixture of a motivator and spicer. Does anyone here use such a method or something similar when coming up with their plots?
