We realized that we couldn't afford to completely 'fence' in our veranda, enough to keep in a determined cat, so instead, we 'netted' it in. We used the very fine netting farmers used to keep birds out of their crops. So thin that we almost don't see it, but Felicity does... And as it's not rigid, she can't climb it. We put up a could of bamboo garden poles at the ends and in the middle of the veranda, and hung the netting on them. We used a double layer around the bottom 2 feet and made sure to have planters holding down the edges so Felicity can get under. She has spent countless hours staring at the net, pacing and poking around the base trying to find a weak spot, but eventually gave up, found a couple of higher shelves and branches to hang out in, and has accepted her confinement. Total cost... about $10.
