But when I checked the Kobo, the book seems to have transferred ok ?
When calibre puts an ebook on the Kobo, it copies the book to the device, updates the metadata in the copy of the book on the Kobo, (optionally) creates covers on the Kobo, updates a file on the Kobo and reads/updates the database on the Kobo. But, as far as the Kobo is concerned, it is only getting the file onto the device that is important. When it is disconnected, it processes any new file and adds it to its database.

As to what went wrong, we need to see the full error to have an idea.

If it is of any interest my Kobo software shows thus:

1.9.17 (r37603, 3/16/12)

Dont know what the ...r37603... means but presume ...3/16/12 is the date of release for that firmware update.
"r37603" is a build number. A couple of the firmware versions have been removed and release quickly with a different build number.
