I don't much like the idea of just deleting the "Calibre" folder in "Roaming" on my Win 7 PC in case it has some sort of knockon effect and stops it working so I'll just remove the "Calibre Library" and see if that helps to give a clean reinstall of calibre.
I might try deleting both on my XP PC as it doesn't matter so much with that as it needs a complete reformat anyway.
Failing that I have to use ADE to load my Kobo with books until Kobo have fixed their firmware and calibre works ok with it again...

You are destroying your Library, that has no effect on which device it is used with (except formats available).
Removal of the config folder IS the recommended procedure for a difficult corrupted 'configuration'. It will be recreated (the Welcome Wizard will run) when you next start Calibre.
