This book was made into a movie starring a young Cary Grant. (And that was actually the 2nd version of the movie. There are actually over 40 movies based on this guy's books)

Basically the main character of the novel (a spoiled rich guy) makes a bet with a doctor that he can spend a year living without his money or connections.

Very interesting look at working class London of 1919
