A proxy can be installed on a kindle, but it needs a hack to slip through the amazon proxy and it CAN also be used in 3G mode (the kindle does not know HOW it gets its internet and if wifi drops out it automatically changes to 3G). Although YOUR kindle may not have 3G, others with 3G could use it to abuse 3G. Such proxy code installed in a kindle is commonly used for "3G tethering", and it is believed to be a reason for amazon imposing the 50MB/month limit for non-US (and non-UK) access.

Discussions that provide such "tether-enabling" details are normally deleted or locked by the site moderators at mobileread. Although your plans may be noble, there are those who would (and do) abuse such information.
