There might be another explanation. Maybe they use it, but with Chinese texts.
Maybe, we should prepare for them the set of test texts, so that they may see what is to be expected to be read by users.
I sort of like the paper mode (2 collumn). But I strongly agree with you that it should be applied within crop settings. There is no need to show sometimes large white margins of original document. More important is to see as much as possible of the text. Paper mode should just make it easier=faster to move from bottom of left column to top of right one.
There is also problem with scribling. I may draw the thick line and it is drawn as thick, but later on it becomes tiny line. Also changing the page sometimes does not work. The page counter changes, but the old one is shown. Sometimes overlayed with scribling from another page...
