I do not know. I updated 5 or 6 times and never had to enter wifi password. The same with the reading history. Also my sketches have not been touched by firmware updates...
Maybe it has to do something with installing anti-freeze firmware. I did not installed it. I guess it erased most or all user data (to get rid of potentialy corrupted databases that might cause ill-behaviour of M92) that are normaly preserved in firmware update.
