2.0.0 not ALL doom and gloom.
My KT did a factory reset a couple of days ago to 1.9.11 because I was fumbling after a browser crash and (I believe) kept the front button pressed too long. Watched everything go down the tubes.
I didn't want to go to 2.0.0, so I installed 1.9.17 firmware and rebooted, but could not, despite all the very helpful messages and hints here, get through the Kobo Desktop drama (I truly hate that software) without 2.0.0c (r41166, 7/12/12) finally ending up on my KT and taking it over.
I'm 100% sideloaded ePubs but I don't use an SD card, so perhaps that's why my page-turning performance isn't quite as bad as I was expecting? (based on posted experiences).
It's definitely slower than 1.9.17 was on page turns, but the other added features make it a palatable tradeoff (IMHO). BUT... selecting a chapter from the ToC? Positively glacial. Just awful. I guess the other disclaimer to make is that I only had my KT for a couple of weeks when it "spontaneously" reset, so I did not have a chance to become so enamored of the features Kobo blew away.
(Edit: forgot to mention that opening the library and navigating "Books" - again, all sideloaded ePubs - is a painfully slow activity. So 2.0.0 has definitely introduced some performance issues for sideloaded ePub, even though I see all my covers, and page-turning isn't so bad. Hope that gets fixed...)
