It's actually more than just an "animation" on iBooks on the iPad - if you want to remind yourself what was on the previous page, you can drag the page corner and the page partially turns back on itself, so you can see both the current page and a portion of the previous page, and that can be very useful.

But I see no need for it in Calibre.
