Maybe I'm observant (my wife says otherwise), but I suspect it's because I'm a geek
One thing I'm geeky about is military hardware, particularly Soviet cold war-era military hardware. On the paperback, it stood out like a sore thumb to anyone who knew it shouldn't be rifled. I knew several people who knew it was wrong, and they all spotted it without any prompting.
