Good suggestion, thanks. I didn't realize you could manually upload to the Kindle app for Android. Though it probably would only store your progress locally on each device I'm guessing?

I was actually able to do some file conversion in Calibre to get it to less than 25 MB though. The original file was mobi, convered that to epub which was only 3 MB. Removed the original mobi from Calibre and then converted the epub back to mobi and it remained fairly small.

It also turns out that the Kindle will accept zipped files as long as they contain a valid personal document file within it, so was able to zip the original 25 MB file, which made it a little over 24 MB and email that to my Kindle. (Just took forever to arrive so I didn't think it was working which is why I also tried the Calibre conversion- at least now I know two methods of getting large ebooks on the Kindle!)
