The question remains if this was because of the technology (the screen itself was really not that bad for a first generation) or the price and design. It was a really heavy and ugly device, not upgradable to ICS, had to be hacked to get Android market access and English menus, had a very slow processor and not enough memory. A half baked attempt for a high price fell flat. Not really a verdict on the display technology. Just a victim of the relentless downward drive in prices. The focus on low priced devices means that new technologies never get a chance.

It is rather sad, I am still looking for the elusive all-in-one device. LED displays, no matter how high the resolution, how good the quality, or how I adjust screen brightness, are still not very comfortable to read on. Something better for newspapers, magazines, and general browsing would be great.

The market has spoken, but the market doesn't always pick the superior product. I personally would gladly spend $300-350 to get a device similar to the Nexus 7, but with a Mirasol screen. Obviously, most people wouldn't. If you don't plan to use the device for extended reading (but rather as a video and browsing device) then it makes no sense at all to shell out more money for a new screen technology. As for the current Nexus 7, well I will just keep on using my Touchpad, thank you.
