I did professional fireworks in the days when you loaded shells into the guns while flames were still coming out of them and the gun a couple feet to your side was about to fire. Wearing hearing protection meant you may not hear the safety monitor shouting to run (to avoid standing in a fresh crater) when an adjacent lift charge did not fire (but the time-delay burst fuse was probably still burning). Now I do my mp3s at 32kbps (mono) or 56kbps (joint stereo) and they sound fine to me.
