Another alternative is to read the Epub using the Firefox EPUBReader extension. IMO it has better text selection facilities than Calibre's EPUB Reader - eg Select All via Ctrl/A.

If you install Calibre's OpenWith plugin for then you can fire up Firefox from within Calibre

But you may lose formatting when you cut & paste, in which case use RTF as suggested by fullybook
