Not exactly sure what you're asking regarding Amazon registration... but I use Linux Mint 12 64 bit to sideload mobi books I've purchased from vendors other than Amazon. When I said the Touch was compatible with Linux, I meant that with Linux Mint 12 64 bit, I was able to plug the Kindle's USB cable into my laptop and mount the Kindle Touch as an external drive for sideloading of ebooks. Hope this helps you out.
