I've never heard of this device before but I googled it to see if I could find out more. From what I can see it uses the Kobo app as its reading platform so I would assume it is similar or identical to the one used on android devices. This would make it separate from the hardware. The first thing to do would be to find out if the update is for the device's firmware or the Kobo app itself. If it's the hardware you're most likely going to have to contact the manufacturer of the device which I'm assuming is shift3. If it's the app you should contact Kobo. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
