I wanted to say that this isn't a universal problem. I have Windows 7 64 bit and was able to install the new version of the desktop software.

There is one issue I'm experiencing - very slow load time of the home screen.

I just timed it with a stopwatch and it took 38 seconds to load the home screen from within a book. Not a huge amount of time in the vast scheme of things, but it is very noticeable. I compared it to my husband's Kobo yesterday and it took my eReader at least twice as long to load the page. The only thing different between my Kobo and my husbands is I have more books loaded onto mine, both Kepubs and sideloaded epubs. It's by no means full, though. I have 418 MB of the device in use atm (I don't use an SD card.)
