I'll try not to give away too much about The Long Earth, but spoilering it just in case .

Finished it now, and while I quite enjoyed it, it was more travelogue than novel. Travels in a distinctly different universe, though, I'll give it that, and whilst the concept is certainly not original, it has been well constructed.

It felt much more like a set-up for a series than a stand-alone and self-contained story, and there will obviously be sequels - almost nothing has been explained yet, including the motivations driving the main protagonists.

I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads, and will more than likely read the next one - I just hope more actually happens in the sequel...
