That not a house. That's a fortress!
The oldest part of the house, where my bedroom is, was build in the 15th century and the newest part of the house, the front, was build in the 17th century. There is another addition in between and another addition to the side so those thick inside walls were, at one point, outside walls. It has it's pros, too. I can only hear my father's snoring, faintly, in summer when the windows are open. If there wasn't a 2 foot wall between my bedroom and my parent's (which is two floors high) I probably wouldn't sleep much .

It also means that each "section" is build at a slightly different level than the ones before (which also varies per floor) so there are a lot of 1 to 4 step stairs in the house.
