There is already a version of this ebook in the library, but I hope this one will find a place also; the text and images come from a different source, the images are much better defined, and it has a cover and a preface.
The Man in Black was first published in London by Cassell, 1894, and in New York by Longmans Green in 1901, with twelve illustration by Wal and H. M. Paget. It is set in 1637, about 50 years after
A Gentleman of France, 30 years after
Memoirs of a Minister of France, 7 years after
Under the Red Robe, and 150 years before
The Red Cockade. There are cameo appearances by Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, but this is not a swashbuckler. It is a spooky tale, with the title character an astrologer who preys with an innocent young woman, her long lost young brother, and her would-be murdering husband.
The text and images come from
www.stanleyweyman.com, and though the images are high quality there were many typos in the text. If you find any I've missed please let me know so I can fix them.
Version 2 has improved images and text
