This is actually a real world issue for me and has happened a numerous amount of times on my Android devices. The apps I've installed on my device run out of internal memory while my SD Card is mostly empty. It seems now all the apps and local files will share the same volume.

Also the Nexus' filesystem is ext3 and not a hybrid of ext3/Fat32 which will make the device that much faster when accessing data.
