Well it makes perfect sense to me. Why carry a 4" camera where the viewfinder works in daylight when you can carry a 10" device where the viewfinder is near impossible to see in broad daylight. And who cares about optical zoom when you can use digital zoom to future degrade an already crappy image.
Actually I've only seen one case where recording with an iPad/tablet was more practical than using a camera or camcorder.
As a wrestling coach it's extremely difficult to record and coach using traditional tools. The iPad has a big enough view finder that it is easy to see the both the screen and the match at the same time. Some coaches just use the iPad viewfinder to view the match. Since all wrestling events are indoors you don't have the screen bleached out.
