I've edited this post twice now. I hope you haven't read the other versions. Finally I've got the answer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search={authors:'contains($, ',', swap_around_comma($), $)'}

should be (I think) ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search={author:'contains($, ',', swap_around_comma($), $)'}

i.e. author not authors
