I hope you don't mind if I take the liberty of clarifying this a little bit. You can get DRM-free Mobipocket books from a few other sources via Whispernet. You can get many Public Domain and Creative Commons works from MobileRead and Feedbooks.com. I believe Fictionwise also sells some titles that way. I do think it's limited to DRM-free titles and Amazon will charge you the 10 cents to send the book, if I'm not mistaken. Most current books you would likely be buying from Amazon, though. Their prices are usually the lowest so that's not necessarily a bad thing if you don't mind the DRM. Fictionwise is very competitive if you join their club, though.
