This is about 4.1.0 - nothing to do with the Kindle Touch.

The way you might expect it to work is that in screens where there are text input fields, the on-screen keyboard would appear when when you move the cursor into a text field (and disappear when you move the cursor out); but in my experience of 4.1.0 so far, you still have to press the keyboard button.
