It depends on whether there is 'enough' storage without needing them.
8GB for a device just used for reading plain text books is more than enough.
8GB for a device used for viewing high-def movies is nowhere near enough.
I've got a 16GB Nook Color which is never even vaguely close to full, a 64GB iPod Touch which I need to strictly manage to avoid filling up, and a 64GB iPad which I find it pretty easy to load on everything I need. But a 32GB one would be much too small.
But then whenever I travel I take a laptop with me as well, so can load more content on if needed. If I was taking long trips without any means of adding to the device, I might find the 64GB too small.
