If I remember correctly, they only have to be changed if the aspect ratio of the image changes. But image's width/height have to match the viewport size.
In other words, if you have 600×800, you can leave it unchanged as long as your image is 600×800, or 1200×1600, or 300×400, or 768×1024... (all 3:4 ratio).
