I actually have an iPod Touch, which is an iPhone minus the phone. Makes a great video and music player, and also has a superb web browser which works over WiFi.

Is the iPhone avilable in the UK? In Canada it came out this week for the first time. The only provider made it available with insane conditions; mainly operating charges brought by a mandatory three year based contract worth about $2500CD. That is pretty steep for an MP3 player!
Yes, it's been available in the UK for a while. Like you, I consider the monthly contract terms to be prohibitive (it starts at £30 - about US$60) a month. If I could buy one as a "pay as you go" phone (which is the way I use my Windows Smartphone) then I might well buy one.
