Was it in a protective cover when it hit the floor?

To be honest it would not matter if it was a Sony, Kindle, Nook or any other ereader on the market. An impact like that without a protective case would still have caused the same result. If it had a protective case, then the T1 may have had a chance of surviving the fall.

If you did have the T1 wrapped up in a protective case, then ouch!
