I like the idea of fan fiction. For something I'm really interested in (a certain video game, or movie universe), it's great to have some extra material to continue enjoying that *entertainment piece* more.

Unfortunately, a lot of it is crap. Enjoyable crap, but crap. It's not too often that I've run across some solid fan-fic.
