In answer (sorry about the long delay):
It comes formatted as FAT32.
I have later on tried deleting files from it using the Sony software; this succeeded, however I cannot write new files to the memory stick.
If I were able to make extra directories, could I "break up" the 2000 odd files in the "Sony Reader\Books" directory and thus overcome this limitation? I am assuming formatting the memory stick would be the only option available to me.
My laptop now claims it is unformatted. I am currently backing up books using the card reader attached to my Mac, however it won't let me write to or delete from the memory stick.
The only other symptom of note is that whenever I disconnect the Sony Reader, it forgets all bookmarks, seemingly "remembering" old ones from April. Also, any new bookmarks get recorded as occuring is 2006 or 2005.
