Well, since the Kindle is designed to connect without a computer, it does not really matter for that one if you have a PC or not. Also, looking at the Kindle FAQ about using it with a computer, macs are discussed and supported. Files can be transferred via USB.
Also, Cybook would seem to be fairly painless. You do not need the desktop software to buy or download the books. The Bookeen site has this to say:
