As the instructions are really for newbies, and not people who have been through the process once or twice, I'm leaning towards leaving them unchanged so first timers do create a brand new email. Once they've learned the ropes they can choose, at their risk of being a chain breaker, whether to reuse the code email. On Yahoo the whole new account process only takes about a minute anyway.
Even that won't break the chain, as the person going thru checkout gets a message that the email has already been used.

If they stop checkout and PM the person to get a new email address, they just start over using their gift code and entering the address at step #5.

It's only when the person skips that step (or disappears from here and also loses their Baen email or somehow thinks that some unknown benefactor sent them some free books), that the chain becomes broken.

You can start and go up to step 5 over and over, so long as you don't finish the checkout, and you won't lose your gift code to get the bundle for free (it only becomes "used" in their system if you finish that step, which completes the order).
