Arthur Cecil Gask (1872-1951) was born in London and practised as a dental surgeon for more than forty years in England and Australia. Following retirement in 1933 he devoted himself to writing. He died in North Adelaide, South Australia.

Synopsis:
A millionaire residing in an old castle in Norfolk is forced to pay over large sums of money to an unknown gang of racketeers and secretly he calls to his assistance some of the greatest detectives and the most notorious criminals in the world. We meet the incomparable Gilbert Larose, the mighty Naughton Jones, Hidou the sewer-rat of Paris, and Raphael Croupin the merry international thief, and many others.
