The epub was one I created, and is similar to many others I've posted on MR. Whenever I'm creating an epub from a pdf image scan and FineReader OCR, in my final proofing phase I always eliminate hyphens except for words that clearly should be hyphenated, such as cut-rate. The epub when read with Mantano reader on my rooted Nook ST has numerous (!) hyphenations, but when read on the NST with the native reader (Adobe) or with ADE on my PC these words do not show as hyphenated - thus the hyphens must be Mantano's attempt to equalize line length for justified text.
