Remember that the question was 'why didn't I buy a Kindle. My answer boils down to 'I feel that Amazon is setting its prices too high'. I'll agree that Amazon is, nominally, answerable to its shareholders. Even so, if the prices are high enough to deter me from buying I am free to assume that their prices are generally limiting their ability to sell product.
I did make the point that their prices should be at a discount from their lowest price for paper (note that they make this comparison hard), not that the Kindle edition should always be $5 or so. If you are desparate for a kindle version when only a hardback is available then you should be willing to bay the premium. However, asking $10 when a mass market paperback is offered for $8 is not going to win my custom.
