Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander is her first book, and the best new urban fantasy I've read this year.

Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel is the best new historical fiction I have read, but it is a sequel to Wolf Hall which you really need to read first.

Taken by Robert Crais is the best new crime novel I have read this year. It is part of a long series, but you could read it stand-alone.

Of the three, Bring Up the Bodies and Taken are very good but not the best by their authors. So if I had to pick one, it would be Nightshifted.
