New to Kindle Touch: Confused by "Notes"

Hi,

I just purchased a Kindle Touch and thought I'd start out with the free version of Milton's, "Paradise Lost" from the Kindle Store. The reviews refer to "notes" which obviously with epic poetry, are very important.

Unfortunately, I have found no "endnotes" or "footnotes", only "notes" embedded in the text from people who highlighted passages. I thought maybe I'd be able to access those but I wasn't.

1) How does one navigate to "footnotes" or "endnotes"? I read a lot of history and endnotes are important to clarify things.

2) What is the purpose of the these user "notes" if they are not publically available?

Thanks.
