I gave the first volume a shot a good while back, simply because I thought I ought to sample this new genre which had swamped the book stores. The Hollows seemed to be among the best of the bunch, but I couldn't get into it. I thought the writing was several degrees short of amazing and I just couldn't make myself feel a thing for the characters involved.

To ape Mr. Lovesauce: liked the setting, utterly indifferent to everything else. Ended up giving it away.
