Here is something that seems interesting. An early Victorian murder mystery set in Edinburgh by a resident author. Self-published but sample reads well. Only a couple of reviews. It seems most of her titles aren't ebooked yet.

The Butchered Man (The Northminster Mysteries) by Harriet Smart

Quote:
On a bleak January day in 1840, a mutilated corpse is discovered outside the city walls of Northminster. It falls to the Chief Constable, Major Giles Vernon, and his newly-appointed surgeon, Felix Carswell, to unravel this unsettling mystery as their skills and integrity are tested to the limit. The Butchered Man is a dark tale of death and deceit in an ancient cathedral city.
