Can't remove formatting

For some time now (IIRC since I upgraded to 8.49 from .46 (or upgraded from .49?)) comments area in 'Edit Metadata' has not behaved like it used to. My font settings are Arial, 9pt, used to be that when I clicked 'Remove Formatting', it resulted in Arial font. Now when I click it, I see Times (maybe, something with serifs), then when I just switch to html view and back all is Arial again. Often I end up manually deleting part of the html to get the desired result (mostly h5);
shows pt 9 Arial as per my settings.

Some examples:

- won't go away, shouldn't 'Remove Formatting' leave just
?

- 'Remove Formatting' removed everything but

Often when I use h5, text is not smaller than rest, just bold:

The Weird

The etc...
I copypasted same text to the next book:

The etc...

I understand that when I copy text from the webpage all kinds of formatting may tag along, but 'Remove Formatting' button should get rid of everything.
Hopefully somebody can understand all this and maybe even explain it.
P.S. I'm running now 8.56, thought that maybe upgrade will fix things, but no.
