For many people it does make sense. There is much to be said for the ease on the eyes that e-ink provides. If I could get a 12 inch e-ink reader, I would happily get one.

As someone who stares at and reads PDFs on a monitor all day, it is so much nicer to come home and kick back and read on a real e-reader not a tablet.

The problem is that the current crop of ereaders are suboptimal for reading PDFs in some categories, while the tablets are suboptimal in other categories. There is no perfect device, but then again there never is.
