I like my Nook since the rooting process works quite well. You aren't really supposed to use it outside of the US it seems, though. I bought mine in Europe through an importer and it has been fine. However I think to buy books through the Barnes and Noble store, you are supposed to put in a US shipping address. From what I have read, if you just put in any US address it's no problem so long as you are not getting anything shipped physically. I have not even associated a credit card with mine as I am sideloading everything. So this is not an issue for me.

Based on my experimenting this afternoon, you can look up words pretty well using a Japanese-language epub in Cool Reader and ColorDict. (I am testing with a html version of the script to Final Fantasy Tactics which I had on my computer which I converted to epub using Sigil.) So at least there is "proof of concept" on the Nook Simple Touch.
